Trader Ming’s

Filed under: Food — Noah W. Smith @ 12:22 pm

Trader Joe’s has a series of Thai noodle boxes, and now that I’m eating lunch in an office again I’m getting fairly well acquainted with them. At $2 each they are about 40-60% off the comparable supermarket alternatives, so that’s a win. The Kung Pao is spicy and really quite good, while the Pad Thai is reasonably tasty but not particularly reminiscent of the real deal, and the Peanut Satay is just alright (bland, smooth, kinda greasy). Maybe I should try not adding all the sauce…

I’d give TJ’s some link-love, but they have a lousy website that does not show information regarding their products.

In praise of a $4 wine

Filed under: Food, Wine — Noah W. Smith @ 6:34 pm

There are three things that bother me about wine: price, snobbery, and acidity. I was pleasantly surprised with a bottle of Dr. Beckermann Liebfraumilch 2006 that I found at Trader Joes for $4, primarily because it had none of the above. And it went very well with our artichoke risotto!
